On September 16, 2026, Trace Shroyer, PA, and Dr. Zachary NaPier had the opportunity to speak at the Greater Lafayette Area Safety Council about occupational spine surgery. NaPier Spine is grateful to the council and to John Sanders for the invitation.

Occupational Spine Surgery as Its Own Subcategory of Care

Trace Shroyer, PA, opened by presenting occupational spine surgery as a distinct subcategory of spinal care. Treating an injured worker is not the same as treating other spine patients, and the best outcomes come from a multidisciplinary approach. That means spine surgeons, case managers, adjusters, physical therapists, pain management specialists, and employers all working together toward the same goal.

Shroyer also shared the practice philosophies and experiences that shape how the NaPier Spine team approaches these cases.

Innovations in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Dr. NaPier followed with a discussion of innovations in minimally invasive surgical techniques. These approaches can support faster recovery and an earlier return to work for injured workers and industrial athletes.

He also discussed strategies aimed at reducing the need for costly reoperation and future surgery, an important consideration for patients, employers, and payers alike.

Connecting With the Community

The event provided an opportunity to reconnect with familiar colleagues and meet new professionals who share an interest in improving outcomes for injured workers.

NaPier Spine thanks everyone who attended and took part in the conversation.

Employers, case managers, adjusters, and therapists interested in learning more about NaPier Spine’s approach to work-related spine injuries are welcome to connect with the team.

Zachary NaPier, MD, and Trace Shroyer, PA, are with NaPier Spine and Indiana Spine Group.
